Iran's President Confirms Secret Mediators as War with US Deepens
Speaking via social media platform X, Pezeshkian declined to identify which nations were involved in the diplomatic push but signalled that any mediation must hold the aggressors accountable.
"Let's be clear: we are committed to lasting peace in the region yet we have no hesitation in defending our nation's dignity and sovereignty," Pezeshkian said in a post on social media platform X.
"Mediation should address those who underestimated the Iranian people and ignited this conflict," he added.
The remarks come days after U.S. and Israeli forces carried out coordinated airstrikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities on Saturday, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with senior military commanders and civilians. Tehran responded with successive waves of missile and drone strikes against Israeli targets and American military bases across the region.
The confirmation of behind-the-scenes diplomatic activity marks a notable development as the conflict enters a potentially decisive phase, with global powers watching closely for signs of either escalation or a negotiated off-ramp.
